Casuzze beach

The house stands directly behind the beach. Here is what to expect from this stretch of the south-east Sicilian coast — with sources.

The house and the beach

The property sits directly behind the sand: a gate on the beach side of the garden opens onto the beach, and the terrace looks straight out to sea. You can walk from breakfast table to water’s edge in a few steps.

The beach is public, as are all Italian beaches. The house has direct access to it; the purchase does not include ownership or exclusive use of the beach, which remains open to everyone.

A south-facing sandy coast

Casuzze is a former fishing hamlet that became a small seaside village. Its beach is a stretch of sand a little over one kilometre long, facing south, between Marina di Ragusa to the east and Punta Secca to the west. The coast continues almost uninterrupted past Caucana and Punta Secca, so long walks along the shoreline are part of daily life.

The Municipality of Santa Croce Camerina has a funded programme to protect and restore the beaches of Caucana, Casuzze and Punta Secca (a regional agreement worth €3.5 million signed in 2024), including beach nourishment and improved access points.

In July 2025 a loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) nested on the beach of Casuzze; volunteers and civil protection fenced off the nest, and Legambiente recognised the municipality as a “turtle-friendly” town.

Official bathing-water quality for each sampling point along the coast is published by the Italian Ministry of Health on the Portale Acque. Check bathing-water quality (Ministry of Health)

We do not promise calm sea every day, empty beaches or permanent bathing suitability: sea conditions and bathing status vary and are set by the competent authorities.

A beach for families

In 2026 the coast of Santa Croce Camerina — Casuzze, Punta Secca and Caucana — again received the Bandiera Verde, the recognition that Italian and international paediatricians give to beaches suitable for children; the area has been listed since 2010. Casuzze also appears among the family-friendly “green flag” resorts listed by the regional tourism portal Visit Sicily.

Marina di Ragusa, about 5 km away, holds both the Blue Flag and the Bandiera Verde for 2026.

Cycling to Marina di Ragusa

From the house, Marina di Ragusa can be reached by bike in about 11 minutes to the marina (2.7 km) and about 15 minutes to Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi (3.6 km), according to cycle routing on OpenStreetMap data.

The route uses the streets of Casuzze and then the cycle lane along Lungomare Bisani. In 2020 the cycle lane was extended experimentally towards Casuzze as a lane on the road (one-way for cars), so parts of the route are shared with traffic and are not a fully separated path. On Lungomare Bisani the two-way cycle lane runs next to a wooden pedestrian boardwalk, where bicycles are not allowed. In Marina di Ragusa, a 2.4 km cycle path continues from Piazza Malta along Lungomare Andrea Doria towards the Irminio nature reserve.

Since summer 2026 bicycles and scooters must be pushed in the pedestrian areas of Marina di Ragusa after 8 p.m.

The garage has room for bicycles. Bike rental options change with the season: ask the agency for the shops open at the time of your visit.

Seasons and services

Summer is the liveliest time: in 2026 the municipality organised 99 events between July and early September across Punta Secca, Casuzze, Punta Braccetto and Caucana, and the local health authority (ASP Ragusa) opened a summer nurse-led clinic for visitors in Casuzze (1 July – 15 September).

Outside summer the village is quiet and many seasonal businesses close; year-round shops and services are in Santa Croce Camerina and Marina di Ragusa, a few minutes away by car. A pharmacy and a supermarket in Casuzze were open when checked in October 2026.
